Positive self-image is a very important thing. We are in a world that has got so much negativity. There’s so much negativity in the news, whether it’s on TV, whether it’s on the radio, whether it’s in life, whether it’s around us, people being negative, it’s a negative world.
In this world, it is really hard to stay positive. So we need positive motivation on a daily basis for that. We need to be able to get a positive self-image. Especially if you have been struggling with fat loss for a long period of time. It can beat you down because it feels like failure and it feels like a struggle.
All that leads to low self-esteem, and over time, having a negative self-image. Past experience’s and being called names, It’s one of those things that hurt me a lot during the early part of my weight loss journey. All those negative things that I had been called was on my mind and it did hurt.
So I had to get over all those things to get a positive self-image. And that bring us to the media, whether on the TV, on magazine, front covers, wherever you look at people who supposedly have the perfect bodies with all six-pack abs and sexy looking, slim people. But, in reality, everyone’s body is different and we’ve got to understand that. People with below average, genetics like myself probably can never be a model or someone who’s a body builder or anything like that. But we all can get to a point where we are in our healthy, fit body weight range. It’s very easily possible to do that using a low-carb eating lifestyle.
In terms of getting a positive self-image, we really need to listen to motivating recordings. I personally listen to Zig Ziglar on pretty much a daily basis because I find his talk about faith, about life, about how we have a choice to live a positive life in a negative world. All that motivates me and keeps me strong and helps me have a positive mind-set.
One of the things that someone was talking about was to write down all the negative feelings that we have. Negative thoughts and negative self-image, mind-set that you’ve got. Just write all of that down and then convert all of that into positive language and use that as affirmation to read that everyday till it becomes natural and automatic to you to think like that. For example, in my case, I was thinking “I’m fat, ugly”, and other such sort of things. So, I had to translate that into, “I’m fit, I’m healthy, I look fantastic and I’m happy with my life”. With that, reading that every day, thinking about it every day helps you in the process of getting a positive self-image.
The other thing is to take yourself out of environments where negative people get involved in gossiping, floundering and talking negatively about other people about yourself, being in groups where it’s easy to starts saying, “Oh, I never lose fat, I never can become healthy”. When you start being in those sort of groups, you start becoming like those people and slowly the negativity pulls you down.
Do all that you can to put yourself in a positive place, to put yourself around positive people and to get a positive self-image. Listen to positive motivational recordings. If you are someone of faith, read the Bible as it is such an uplifting book. I love reading the Bible because it gives so much good guidance for daily living, for being positive, for being the creation that God has created us to be fit, to be healthy, to be people who add value to the world to help people around to love people around me, to be grateful for everything that I have got and to be thankful. It is a book that I would recommend anyone to read, whether you are a Christian or not. There’s a lot of fantastic life lessons that you can learn from the Bible. But personally, being a Christian, I love God and I love what God’s done in my life. The Bible points towards all that has been done. So, I enjoy that, as well as listening to Zig Ziglar’s motivational recordings and making the most of my time to have a positive impact.
I don’t get involve in negative communication on the Internet, I don’t get involve in negative talk among friends, among colleagues, none of that. I usually distance myself when I see some negative topic being spoken or negative things being talked about. I try to enliven things by looking at the positive side of things, but if people are going to be pessimistic and keep looking at the negative side of things, then I usually distance myself and it is a choice that I have to make to protect myself, to protect my self-image and to be positive to be someone who adds value, someone who helps people achieve fantastic goals. So, you’ve got to make that choice, you’ve got to make the choice to change your life to be positive to be out of all the negative influences in your life, especially television and all sorts of things that it can bring about.
I hope you take this to heart and look at various areas in your life, you can look at the positive and become more positive and get a positive self-image. Also, if you can’t afford to buy a Zig Ziglar’s positive motivational recordings, there are a few on the Internet, on YouTube that have been licensed so that people can listen to it and get motivation from it. Check out the recordings like “See You At The Top” and “Goals” by a Zig Ziglar, they are fantastic recordings in my opinion. Work hard towards creating a positive self-image and work hard towards creating a healthy lifestyle and a healthy body.
